The development of the Korlat Solar Power Plant (SPP) project began in 2019, recognizing the significant potential of the location, on which the construction of Korlat Wind Farm (WF) was being prepared at the time. The existing spatial planning documentation of Zadar County facilitated the development of such a project, while the location itself showed significant energy potential. In addition, the location favourable topographic conditions enabled the same space and common infrastructure (grid connection, access, etc.) to be used for both plants (SPP and WF) with the aim of optimizing investment and operating costs as well as site occupancy.
The planned scope of Korlat SPP is located within the Ravni Kotari region in northern Dalmatia, about a kilometre northeast of the Korlat township and about 7 km northwest of the town of Benkovac. Korlat SPP is planned as part of the Korlat energy park (a hybrid wind farm and solar power plant project). Access to the location is provided through the existing road with a connection to the D27 state road.
The Korlat SPP project includes the construction of a solar power plant on a section of the area covered by the erected Korlat Wind Farm, encompassing a gross area of approximately 150 ha, with installed capacity of photovoltaic panels of up to 99 MWp, the infrastructure for the connection to the 110 kV transmission network within the existing 33/110 kV Korlat substation, and an auxiliary facility for storage and management of the energy park. The planned connection capacity of Korlat SPP at the grid threshold is 75 MW. The photovoltaic panels are mounted on a structure with a single-axis solar tracking system.
The project is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.
Korlat SPP began trial operation in mid-February 2026.
