Renewable energy charge

13.02.2009.
The Ministry of Economy, Labor and Entrepreneurship has prepared a leaflet about the system for colleting renewable energy charge entitled „How do citizens contribute to investment in renewable energy sources?“

The leaflet is available in premises for customers in HEP ODS distribution areas (Elektra) and electronically at https://www.hep.hr/ods/kupci/letakRELEEL_web.pdf)

The promotion of the use of renewable energy sources (RES) is a strategic objective of the EU’s energy policy. Directive on the promotion of the use of electricity from RES requires member states to establish a RES incentive system. Each EU member state sets its own national target for RES-produced electricity and Croatia, as a candidate country, did this in mid-2007 by passing Regulation on the minimal share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources and cogeneration whose production is incentivized. Under Croatia’s Government Regulation of July 1, 2007, the renewable energy charge is collected from all electricity customers in Croatia. The amount of the charge is indicated on electricity bills and/or period-end bills (for customers subject to estimated billing).

The renewable energy charge is 0.0089 kn/kWh + VAT. The Ministry issued the leaflet as part of the project RELEEL – Renewable Energy Legislation and Energy Efficiency Labelling. The project, funded by the European Commission through Program CARDS 2004, was launched in September 2007 for a period of 18 months. The purpose of the project is to analyze the needs and give recommendations for further harmonization of Croatia’s RES and cogeneration legislation with that of the EU. The project has also a promotional and educational nature as it includes workshops and promotional materials aimed at raising awareness of the general public of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency in Croatia.
