17.10.2008.
International Energy Market – Understanding Pricing, Policies and Profits, an international workshop organized by the publishing firm Kigen d.o.o. was held on Thursday, October 16, at the Hotel International, during which the book bearing the same title (as translated into Croatian) written by the respectable American expert Carol A. Dahl was presented.

Numerous specialists from the Croatian energy sector gathered at the event, some of which like president of HEP Management Board, Ivan Mravak, and president of INA Management Board, Tomislav Dragičević, were speakers as well. In the first part of the workshop, author Dahl speaking about the topics of “Understanding international energy markets” and “Electricity, natural monopoly and restructuring” covered a significant part of the book which, according to the reviewers, contributes significantly to the modest energy market literature available in Croatian.

Mr Dragičević delivered an interesting speech on the topic International Energy Market – Croatian View, outlining the most important issues of contemporary energy trade to explain how this complex market concept affects prices of oil products in Croatia. Mr Mravak spoke about the prospects of an electricity company in the global energy market from the leadership position HEP has in Croatia. He briefly described all significant projects that the company had been or was undertaking, all for the purpose of fulfilling its mission – secure electricity supply to customers. Mr Mravak also presented the legal framework formed by the full opening of the market emphasizing in particular the fundamental strategic document at state level – Energy Strategy. The leaders of the two strongest energy companies in Croatia agreed that managing the social policy through the energy sector has to be abandoned if these two companies are to be internationally competitive.
