Air protection and climate change

In line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the European climate and energy policy on increasing the share of renewable sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing energy efficiency HEP will increase its share of renewable energy sources from 35 to 50 percent by 2030. This objective will be met by revitalizations, i.e. the increase in capacity and output of existing hydropower plants, the construction of new hydro power plants and investments in other renewable energy sources - forest biomass fired power plants, solar power plants and wind power plants, and by construction of highly efficient combined-cycle cogeneration plants (EL-TO Zagreb CCPP).

By increasing the share of renewables and improving energy efficiency, HEP Group will lower the consumption of fossil fuels - liquid fuels, gas and coal. HEP Group is continually reducing the emission of pollutants into the air and greenhouse gas emissions from its sources, and air quality monitoring systems have been installed in the vicinity of HEP's sources.
