MM Meat Industry

The core business of the Milivoj Medven Slaughterhouse is a multi-discipline activity relating to the preparation and selling of meat and processed-meat products, for which considerable amounts of sanitary hot water should be ensured in the production process.

The aim of the Project is to apply energy efficiency measures and renewable energy sources to reduce the consumption of fuel oil in the water heating boiler room.

The Project provides for the use of waste heat from cold-storage plant, which is transferred to sanitary hot water in accumulator tanks. Before the execution of the Project, this heat was released into the air in the surroundings. In order to increase the share of “free heat energy”, the system was expanded with solar collector panels.

By applying the modernized sanitary hot water preparation system, the company’s plants will achieve annual savings at the level of 315,000.00 kuna which will pay off the total investment over a four-year period.

The Project has achieved its aim of reducing consumption of 86,600 l/yr of fuel oil used to heat about 9,500 m3 of sanitary water. After the implementation, the savings are expected to amount to 73,890 l/yr or 85 % of the previous consumption. The consequence of the reduced consumption of fuel oil is a reduction in greenhouse gas emission of 192 t/yr.
