Precautions
- Do not panic!
- Do not switch anything on, do not turn lights on, do not touch sockets or switches, do not use the telephone!
- Open the windows!
- Turn off the stop valve!
- Warn the neighbors (by knocking, not ringing doorbell)!
- Call relevant services (when you are outside the house or building)!
When gas can be smelled do immediately the following:
- Turn off all flames and possible sources of ignition!
- Open all widows and doors!
- Turn off the main gas stop valve!
The sequence of the above operations is for you to decide considering the circumstances.
In rooms where gas can be smelled:
- Do not smoke!
- Do not light a match, do not use a lighter or a flashlight!
- Do not enter with an open light or flame!
- Do not turn on any electric switch!
- Do not pull in or out any electric plug!
- Disable electric doorbell, air conditioning and other automatic electric devices, as well as telephone by disconnecting it when out of danger.
- After turning off the main stop valve, make sure other gas taps are turned off!
- Lights can be turned on only after gas cannot be smelled.
- You cannot rely on your own sense of smell only, call other persons.
- If the cause of smell cannot be located although all gas taps are turned off, call immediately duty staff of your gas distributor. They should be notified even in case of a weak smell of gas for which cause cannot be found.
- If the smell of gas comes from a room which cannot be entered, immediately notify police or firefighters as they have the right to enter. At the same time, notify also your gas distributor.
- If gas seems to come out from the basement, do not enter it whatever the circumstances, but if possible give it a good ventilation. Inform other residents that gas is leaking and the gas distributor at the same time!
- Do not repair by yourself disturbances or damages on gas appliances!
- Make accessible the observed place of damage and call the gas fitter who carried out the original installation or gas service technician to repair the fault.
