How to connect to the gas distribution system (homes)

You will need:

  • deed of title for your premises (excerpt from land registry or court) which may not be older than six months
  • layout of cables (location of existing underground utilities in your street), in the scale 1:1500, which you can get from the cadastre or from a registered geodetic company, which may not be older than six months.

In addition to these two documents, you must file Request for energy approval to HEP Gas and make a payment at the distributor's cash-desk for the purpose of determining the conditions of connection.

Connection of new customers (or capacity increase for existing customers) requires energy approval issued by the distributor at a written request by the requesting party. The cost of issuance of energy approval is borne by the requesting party. When submitting the request for energy approval you can choose a method of payment for connection to the gas system: a single payment or installment payment (12 installments).

After determining the conditions of connection, which is performed by our staff, we will issue energy approval to you. The distributor is obligated to decide on the issuance of energy approval and submit it to the requesting party within 30 days of the date of receipt of the request.

What is next?

It is necessary to produce a conceptual design of the gas connection, developed by a licensed designer, and submit it to the building inspectorate after which work can begin to construct a service connection from the main pipeline to your home, which is performed by licensed contractors. For the in-house gas installation, it is necessary to produce a detailed design of the interior gas installation according to which the contractor will carry out the work.

After the work is finished, the owner - customer should contact his or her local office of the gas distributor as the gas installation must be tested for the proper working order and insulation as required by the design. If testing of the gas installation determines any deficiency, leak or failure to meet the design or regulations and Croatian standards, the gas distributor is obligated to withhold supply of gas to the customer whose gas installation has been determined as having deficiencies until they are rectified. The cost of an in-house gas installation depends on your needs and the number of appliances you will install.

What is a service connection?

A customer's gas installation consists of a service connection and an interior installation. The service connection connects the distribution line with the in-house installation and ends with the main stop valve.

The main components of the service connection are a service pipe, introduction into the house and the main stop valve. A customer's in-house gas installation consists of a regulating station (gas meter, pressure regulator, filters, etc.), gas pipes, stop valves and gas appliances.

The distributor carries out pressure test of the service connection and in-house gas installation at the request of a licensed contractor. The costs of construction of the service connection and in-house installation are borne by the customer. The distributor carries out regular certification and checks of working order of the gas meter at the distributor's expense.

Delivery of natural gas

Before natural gas is released into the installation, the customer is obligated to file a registration of the gas installation with the distributor which shows:

  • certified record of testing the gas installation for tightness
  • proper working order of the device for discharge of combustion products (chimney)
  • proper working order of ventilation devices (if needed).

Release of gas from behind the service connection to gas taps in front of appliances may be carried out only by the distributor's personnel. Gas appliances may be commissioned only by licensed service technicians. After the system is commissioned, the distributor seals the gas meter.

Delivery of natural gas is carried out on the basis of written contracts for natural gas delivery or on the basis of the registration of the gas installation.
