The Transmission Area Osijek carries out the transmission activity in the area of four counties, namely:  Slavonski Brod-Posavina, Požega-Slavonia, Vukovar-Srijem and Osijek-Baranja counties. There are four distribution areas in these counties: Elektra Slavonski Brod, Elektra Požega, Elektra Vinkovci and Elektroslavonija Osijek.

The Transmission Area Osijek covers mainly the lowlands of Slavonia and Baranja. During the Homeland War (1991-1995) the Area transmission network was damaged to a considerable degree. The 400/110 kV Ernestinovo substation was totally destroyed and a large portion of the transmission network functioned with temporarily enabled lines and a  220/110/35 kV substation near Đakovo. The situation lasted until 2003 when the 400/110 kV Ernestinovo substation was reconstructed and when about 350 km of high voltage lines were constructed or reconstructed. By putting the Ernestinovo substation into operation and reconnecting UCTE synchronous zones 1 and 2, the security of supply, especially in Slavonia and Baranja, has been greatly improved.

There are only two production sources in the Transmission Area Osijek: TE-TO Osijek cogeneration plant and Osijek gas-fired plant.  Because they produce less than 1 of electricity needed to supply customers in the area, the rest is procured from elsewhere in the power system. That is why the transmission network in the Area is extremely important  and every substation has at least two incoming lines from the 110 kV network and two transformers with considerable reserve capacity.

The Transmission Area Osijek employs 229 people. The Area covers about 11,000 km2 which is about 19 percent of the national territory, the share in total electricity consumption and peak load is about 14 percent. The Area is responsible for 1.023,0 km of high voltage lines and 18 high voltage substations of the total installed capacity of 1.729 MVA (32 transformers and 139 circuit breaker bays).

Through eight high voltage lines the Area transmission network is connected  with the neighboring countries: Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia. The power plants in the Area generated 107 GWh in 2005. Electricity consumption was 2.144 GWh with the annual increase of 3,3 percent, transit in the Area was 2.498 GWh. Peak load in 2005 was 400 MW.

Thanks to the post-war reconstruction of the transmission network, the Transmission Area Osijek has a network infrastructure of high reliability and high transit significance.
