Electricity market

The Croatian electricity market has been gradually opening and in 2008 it will be fully liberalized, which means that HEP will not be the only company in the market and will therefore not have the obligation to purchase electricity from renewable energy sources. This will be the responsibility of the Croatian Energy Market Operator (HROTE). The website www.hrote.hr provides all information about the functioning of the Croatian electricity market.

Also, Croatia has recently introduced guaranteed tariffs (feed-in tariffs) as an incentive measure for electricity production from renewable sources. For producers of electricity from renewable sources to qualify for incentive tariffs, they should obtain the status of eligible producer. The decision to grant the status is  issued by the Croatian Energy Regulatory Agency (HERA).
