Sustainable development

Environmental protection and sustainable development is the area in which most social responsibility activities and projects have been undertaken. For example, at the end of 2005, the first manual in Croatia for corporate social responsibility entitled “Winning with Integrity” presents a project for protection of the white stork from electric shock, a project for cleaner production in TE-TO Zagreb, and a project for utilization of waste from Plomin thermal power plant as raw material in the production process of Holcim Cement Factory.

 Other activities in this areas include promotion of construction of small renewable electricity sources in Croatia, first by purchasing energy at prices much higher than the average production price in HEP’s system, and then by establishing the company for renewable energy sources, HEP Obnovljivi izvori energije at the end of 2006. The company HEP ESCO, also a member of HEP Group, has been  implementing an international energy efficiency project at customers’ locations in Croatia, for which it received award as the best ESCO company in Europe
